PUBLIC TOUR of KEG LAKE MAINE PUBLIC RESERVED LAND in LAKEVILLE

TIME: 9:15AM sharp and ending at 11:30AM
PLACE: Follow the signs at the junction of Bottle Lake Road
and the gravel road about 1/4 mile south of Dill Valley Road
(approximately 5 miles from Route 6, on the left).
The public visit will illustrate management planning and harvest
execution on the Keg Lake parcel of Maine Public Reserved Lands in
Lakeville. Multiple-use management is conducted by the Bureau of
Parks and Lands of Department of Conservation with objectives to
provide ATV, snowmobile and walking recreational trails, timber
harvest revenue to the State of Maine and the Town of Lakeville,
potential public water access, wildlife production, appropriate
reserves and long-term sustainable forest production.
The tour will highlight several different ways to manage forests
including producing different combinations of tree species suited to
various timber and wildlife values, deer yard management, high
volume timber stocking and other conditions appropriate to other
purposes, with the possibility to observe harvesting in progress
utilizing advanced logging equipment. Some elements of historical
agricultural use of the property will be visible.
Bureau of Parks and Lands forester and staff, wildlife biologists
from Dept. of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, logging contractor
staff, local foresters and an expert in local flora will be along to
provide information.
Everyone is welcome. Forest landowners, those interested in the
outdoors and natural resource management to high standards, loggers,
wildlife enthusiasts and everybody interested in use of our public
resources and community forests will find this visit to one of our
public lands worthwhile.
